Our next remodel project at the château is the master bathroom. The biggest challenge we've faced in designing this room has been sourcing supplies, and we've ended up ordering the vanity, bathtub, and lighting from England.
This is what the bathroom looked like when we bought the house.
We're changing the layout slightly by putting the vanity along the wall where the bathtub is currently, and moving the bathtub under the window. Soaking in a tub, under a window with a beautiful view, is definitely one of life's great luxuries - to us anyway!
And this is the bathroom without any decor, ready to be remodeled.
We're replacing the two pedestal sinks with a 5 foot double vanity. I've seen those pedestal sinks used in lots of homes in France, and I'm not sure why they're such a common choice because they're inconvenient and provide no storage. I'm keen to add storage wherever possible, so we are also including two recessed medicine cabinets as our mirrors above the vanity.
This is the 'Vendome'double vanity we've chosen, and we're having it painted a dusty green color.
We've decided to install a stone resin bathtub, rather than cast iron, in this bathroom. We have a bath pretty much every day, and really loved the tub we had in San Francisco, so we chose a similar model for this house. The shape is very classic, and we'll be pairing it with a traditional freestanding bath tap. Of course we won't be wasting the cast iron tub that's currently in this room - it's being moved to another bathroom.
The bath tub is from Lusso Stone and the taps are by Butler & Rose.
The bathroom doesn't have a shower at the moment, so we'll be adding one. The top of the vanity is being made from honed carrara marble, so we've chosen a simple carrara marble tile for the shower cubicle. Marble is a slightly controversial choice, but we've never had too much trouble looking after it in previous homes and I love the look of it.
We're also adding some wood paneling to the bathroom walls, but I'm undecided about paint colors. I think we'll need to see the vanity in the space before we can make a final decision. It's going to be exciting to see the space take shape over the coming weeks.
