Tensions are rising in Bali with the imminent threat of an eruption from Mount Agung, the island's tallest volcano.
Driving through the streets yesterday, we saw hundreds of university students collecting donations for the 50,000+ people who have had to vacate their homes in light of the volcano's recent seismic activity. I've heard heartbreaking accounts of farmers having to abandon all of their livestock, their livelihood, in the rush to move to safer grounds.
Mount Agung last erupted in 1963, killing over 1,000 people. I desperately hope that the advanced efforts of Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency will see everyone in Agung's path relocated to a safe location before the eruption strikes.
Thank you to everyone who has written to me with their concern for our safety. We live around 44 miles away from the volcano, but our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the danger zone.
