We spent the Easter weekend with my sister, brother-in-law, and two nephews. It was a mega weekend with Rosie's first Easter egg hunt, and three birthdays to celebrate. My favorite kind of weekend :-)
On Friday night we were up late, waiting for my sister to arrive in Bali from Brisbane, and were very uninspired by the TV. So we tuned into TED and discovered Sir Ken Robinson, an adviser on education in the arts. I've always been interested in education, and having Rosie has peaked my interest even more.
If you have 20 minutes, I'd highly recommend watching his 2006 talk. There's a reason its been watched over 45 million times!
His follow up talk is also thought provoking. When talking about our children's future, he quoted an exquisite poem by Yeats, and urged us to 'tread softly' as though our children's dreams are beneath our feet.
Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
