I’m generally drawn to light and bright rooms, and I unconsciously assumed that white would be the foundation for our kitchen design in Bali, combined with some natural elements from stone and wood... Until we went to lunch at Locavore (which, by the way, was fabulous!) where I was struck by their dark, charcoal-colored, cement tile floor.

I was surprised by how open and light-filled the space felt with such dark flooring. The tiles themselves had an unevenness to them which looked natural and organic, and their color provided a lovely contrast to the wooden furniture in the room.
Seeing this combination of materials has made me completely rethink our color palette for the kitchen. Now we're exploring a design story that combines dark floor tiles, black and white marble, reclaimed teak wood, glass, and white walls. I'm excited to see how this idea develops and, as always, I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas in the comments below!
