Bali is located very close to the equator, which means we have year-round temperatures averaging 79-82°F and lots of sunshine. That's right, there's no winter! It goes without saying that wearing sunscreen is mandatory here - especially for Rosie and I who have very fair skin.
Growing up in Sydney Australia - where we also have lots of sunshine, beaches, and hot weather - sun safety was always top of mind. Unfortunately as a teenager I was a bit neglectful of sun protection, and I've got the sun damage to show for it. These days I'm much more mindful; I've had family and friends diagnosed with melanoma (skin cancer), I have a young daughter to protect, and I'm also keen to prevent any more unnecessary premature aging on my skin!
Part of my overall health routine is to have my skin checked by a specialist every couple of years, and at my last appointment I quizzed her about sunscreen. After an extensive discussion about lots of different brand, she resolutely recommended Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen.
I've tried dozens of sunscreens over the years, many of which were expensive, and they invariably felt greasy, or left me looking ghostly white from the zinc. Since getting this recommendation, I've been using this product daily for nearly a year and have no complaints! Justin and Rosie now use it too.
The sheer lotion and the body mist that we use every day.
It provides UVA/UVB protection, is non-greasy, oil free, fast-absorbing and water resistant. Plus, it works well under makeup, I haven't suffered any breakouts from using it, and the price tag is pretty unbeatable. I apply the liquid version at the start of the day, and I use the body mist throughout the day if my coverage needs topping up. The body mist is also great for kids, who often prefer a quick spray rather than a lathering in lotion.
If you’re looking for a new sunscreen to enjoy the rest of the summer without burns, I’d highlight recommend both the sheer lotion and the body mist.
Note: This post is not sponsored. I just wanted to share a product that my family uses every day and hasn't let us down :-)
P.S. Vacation photos from our time on Nusa Penida, a tropical island paradise off Bali's mainland.
