Rosie has recently learnt to count. "Onnnnne, two, FOUR, SIX!"
It's ridiculously cute :-)
Anyway, we were in an elevator recently and Rosie wanted to press the button. I explained to her that we were on the third floor, so we needed to press number three. Low and behold, she pushed the correct button.
I later realized that, despite her counting being a little jumbled, she could recognize and accurately name all the numbers from 0-9.
I've been counting with her a lot, but I hadn't considered teaching her numerals yet. Then it dawned on me, she'd learnt all the numbers from this toy phone. Given the education Rosie has received from this gadget, I'd have to highly recommend it!
We're now working on counting up to twenty with these flashcards. Today I showed her the card for eleven, and asked her if she knew the name of this number. Her answer: "many ones". How cute is that? It just goes to show the unbridled and unsullied creativity of childhood.
P.S. Thoughts on raising Rosie and how to inspire creativity.
